Chambers takes 100 metres gold

Britain's Dwain Chambers took the European 100 metres crown in Munich tonight just 11 days after his Commonwealth Games nightmare in Manchester. The 24-year-old Londoner shattered the championship record set by team-mate Darren Campbell four years ago to win a personal best 9.96secs. Campbell took the bronze in 10.15secs behind Portugal's Nigerian-born Francis Obikwelu (10.06).

The victory answered his critics who doubted his big race temperament after he pulled up in Manchester with cramps which was later diagnosed as being caused by not rehydrating properly after races.

Greece's Georgios Theodoridis, who was expected to be a threat, was disqualified for two false starts.
