If you haven’t seen the video of Dara Ó Briain clocking photographer, James Cheadle, in the head with a sliotar, do check it out. It’s a good laugh, taken “on the chin”, so to speak, by the photographer in question.

The event took place on the hallowed turf of the Lord’s cricket ground in London, and was staged to publicise the fact that England and Ireland will play in May of this year for the first time in a one-day series.

Today on the Ray D’Arcy Show, the Wicklow man had a few words to say about his “hurling skills”.

“It could not have been better. It slightly irritates me that people go, ‘Dara Ó Briain , hurling fail’. The Independent said, ‘Big Dara Ó Briain may be doing very well in England, but he needs to work on his hurling skills.’ No, I don’t! I’m 45! There is no reason for me to work on my hurling skills any more. Also, the guy said, knock it over my head, and I hit him on the head!”

On St Patrick’s night, March 17th, Dara will be one of a rake of Irish comedians who will take to the stage in the 3Arena in Dublin for Paddy’s Night in Support of Comic Relief… Tommy Tiernan will be there, so will Deirdre O'Kane, Ardal O'Hanlon and Jason Byrne.

“We’ve sold 75% of the tickets, it’s for a tremendous cause. But it won’t happen again. We’ll never see the like again.”

Tickets to that gig are available through Ticketmaster, but in the meantime, to listen to the full interview with Ray, click here.
