The community of Cape Clear in West Cork is making a pretty audacious claim: they think their St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the smallest in the world. Séamus O’Driscoll, manager of the ferry service to the island, came on The Ray D’Arcy Show to tell Ray about the plan for tomorrow.

Séamus told Ray that he’s hopeful the weather will hold out for their second ever parade.

“There’s only 120 people on the island…[last year] we had 70 people, 3 dogs, a goat and a sheep.”

This presents an interesting challenge. There are more people taking part in the parade than there are watching it. Séamus has a solution.

“If you want to watch it, you’ve got to jump out and have a look at it and jump back in again.”

People will have to wait until tomorrow to see the full range of the (three) floats on offer but in the meantime, some listeners who reckon they can challenge Cape Clear’s “smallest parade” title messaged the show. Neighbouring Shirkin Island would like a go, as would Glounthaune in Co. Cork.
