A GAA jersey might not be considered the most high-fashion item you could have in your wardrobe. But O’Neills seems to be the latest label making a splash with the taste-makers in Vogue Paris. This month, Offaly hurler-turned-model Oisín Murphy appeared in Vogue wearing a Cushendall club jersey. Cushendall Senior Hurling Manager Eamon Gillan joined Ray D’Arcy this afternoon to talk about The Orchard County’s Vogue debut.

Eamon told Ray that it started out with a call saying that Vogue was looking for a pitch with a sea view to do a shoot. It ended with Oisín Murphy borrowing Eamon’s socks and boots to take a stroll with supermodel Adwoa Aboah for Autumn edition of Vogue Paris.

“He actually arrived with no kit at all. So, in the photograph, he’s actually wearing my boots and socks and he’s modelling the club jersey and shorts.”

Ray was curious who the lucky sponsor was, to go from local club sponsorship to international fashion magazine. Eamon says that McKeegan International have truly lived up to their name with their Vogue debut.

“He [amus McKeegan] probably doesn’t even know too much about it yet because it’s pretty fresh news. He will be chuffed because he’s getting a bit of free advertisement…He is now international, yes!

It’s safe to say Eamon is pretty pleased with the turn of events. But he thinks he might do one thing differently had he known just how far his club would reach.

“Hurling people don’t do anything for nothing, Ray…If I’d known it was going to get a bit of publicity like we’re having now, I would have asked for a bit more.”
