In the summer of 1979, Terry Grant got a knock on his door. It was the Bishop of Kildare and he wanted to talk about "a matter of international secrecy". Pope John Paul II was due to visit Ireland later that year and tensions were running high about the prospect of him visiting Northern Ireland. 18 British soldiers had just been killed at Warrenpoint and Lord Mountbatten's assassination hit the headlines mere hours later. The pope couldn't go North. But maybe he could go to Terry Grant's farm.
In A Matter of International Secrecy, the Grant family tell the story of how they played host to 300,000 faithful at their farm in Drogheda on that fateful day in 1979.
