Newly-crowned World Rowing Champion Sanita Puspure told Ray D’Arcy that her career is not over yet. Not by a long shot.

Landing back in Ireland at 3am this morning after her victory in Bulgaria on Sunday, Sanita "still can't believe" the events of Sunday, which saw her comfortably win the Women's Single Sculls Final. Her husband Kaspars and children Patrick and Daniella were on-hand to congratulate her.

"It was great to have them there for such a special day. After all, it's not every day you become a World Champion."

Such a prestigious victory has been a long time coming, Sanita says. With 20 years in the sport, she took time away from rowing to have children and assumed that would be it for her sporting career. But her move to Ireland from Latvia in 2006 re-ignited her passion for the sport.

"I feel so much support. Not just at home here but also from the rowing community…I'm not the youngest chicken on the block."

Sanita will be 38 when the 2020 Tokyo Olympic rolls around. Does she have her sights set on another major win?

"Well, surely I'm not going to give up now."
