There are few things scarier than the threat of terrorism on a flight and needless to say when someone shouts "Bomber!" on board an aeroplane, not once but several times, it's bound to cause chaos. That's exactly what happened when legendary footballer Eoin "Bomber" Liston was coming home from a stag do in Cheltenham and a friend innocently tried to get his attention. You can imagine what came next.
"Three or four rows back a friend of ours, he just called me and I didn't hear him and he just said 'Bomber', and then when (I didn't hear him), he just said, 'Bomber!'"
Needless to say, a member of the cabin crew was at Eoin's hapless friend's side in moments and he was whisked away into the cockpit to explain himself to the captain to avoid all hell breaking loose on board.
"They were filling out a report and he got out his phone… Googled 'Eoin Liston' and showed a picture of me and 'Bomber' was there alongside it and he said, 'Look, I was only calling him, that's his name, that's what people call him,' and in fairness, the captain then realised what had happened!"
"The captain told him that they were very close to turning around," said Eoin but luckily the day was saved, the stags landed safely in Cork and Eoin will never be called "Bomber" on a plane again… Hopefully…
