Story Notes
Over ten years ago, a group of residents living in Fatima Mansions, one of Dublin city's most notorious and deprived communities, came together with the beginnings of a dream.
It was time to tear down a past filled with despair, crisis, and neglect, and to build a new future from the ground up.
This was the start of a process that has culminated, in the past few months, with Fatima's residents moving from their old, damp and crumbling apartments into brand new, architect-designed houses with central heating and back gardens.
But the move is only the beginning of a process that Fatima's residents insist has to incorporate all areas of social regeneration, from education and health to employment and youth services.
And it is this insistence on nothing less than the best that has kept Fatima's residents going through a decade of success, setbacks, and a growing relationship of trust with Dublin City's local authorities.
Block by block, the old Fatima is disappearing and something new, filled with hope and energy, is taking its place.
'A Dream for Fatima', records this change, tracking some of Fatima's residents as they leave behind the flats they have lived in since birth, whilst discussing their dreams for the future and their memories of the past.
