Story Notes
Sunday 3rd May 2009
Each year in Ireland, approximately 10,000 people receive an acquired brain injury - from then on, they face a dramatically altered life. In this weeks Documentary on One, An Injury for Life we hear from Ned, Dermot and Noel, three people who live with an acquired brain injury.
These three men are cared for within the assisted living service operated by Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
Ned, Dermot and Noel live in one of the residential services in the Midwest South region, in Macroom, Co. Cork. This service provides them with a 'home from home'. They now live together in a safe environment where they are respected, empowered and supported by staff on a 24/7 basis.
In An Injury For Life we get a glimpse of what life is like for Ned, Dermot and Noel since they received their injuries. What emerges is a story which encompasses all the emotions - life is no longer as easy as it once was for them - but that doesn't deter. As a result of coming into the Macroom house they now live their lives with a whole new energy and a renewed outlook.
