Russian drones swarmed the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early this morning, striking and triggering fires in at least two residential buildings, officials said.

No casualties were reported.

Air defence units were in action around the capital.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said a high-rise building was being evacuated after being hit in the Pechersk district in the city centre.

He said four people had been treated for injuries and at least eight rescued from the building.

Pictures posted on unofficial channels showed parts of a building ablaze.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the capital's military administration, said another high-rise residential building had been hit in a district on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River, and pictures showed several apartments on fire on upper floors.

Mr Klitschko also reported disruptions to the city's power and water supplies.

Ukraine's energy ministry said a "massive" attack targeting power facilities was under way.

"At the moment, a massive combined enemy attack on energy infrastructure facilities is underway," the energy ministry posted on Telegram.

"Energy workers will begin assessing the consequences and carrying out restoration work as soon as the security situation allows."

Ukrainian air strikes killed one person and wounded three others in the Russian port city of Taganrog, the mayor said.

"As a result of the massive overnight air strike on our city, two apartment buildings, a private home, the Mechanical College building, two industrial enterprises, and Kindergarten No. 7 were damaged," Mayor Svetlana Kambulova posted to Telegram.

"Unfortunately, three people were wounded and one person was killed," she said, adding that "a decision will be made on the necessary response measures".

Meanwhile officials in Russia's Krasnodar border region were assessing the damage after a "massive" Ukrainian attack wounded at least six people, the governor said.

"Overnight, Krasnodar region suffered one of the Kyiv regime's most sustained and massive attacks," Governor Veniamin Kondratyev posted on Telegram.

"Six residents of the region were wounded, and at least 20 homes in five municipalities were damaged."
