One of the injured was found with a gunshot wound. Mr VanGerpen said there were unconfirmed reports that he was the driver of the vehicle.
Authorities gave no immediate details on the cause of the incident or the identity of the driver.
The location was near a music venue and many of the patrons standing outside waiting to get in were women, Mr VanGerpen said.
A taco truck near the venue as well as a valet podium were destroyed, he added.
The area where the incident occurred is near Hollywood landmarks including Sunset Boulevard and the Walk of Fame - a sidewalk emblazoned with stars commemorating movie industry figures.
