Watch: LA 'not out of danger' as locals question readiness

Firefighters have held the line against several massive wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles for the past week, even as desert winds and a parched landscape presented extremely hazardous conditions.

Some 8,500 firefighters from at least seven US states and two foreign countries prevented the fires from growing for a second straight day.

The death toll held steady at 24 as did the estimate of 12,000 structures damaged or destroyed.

But some properties have been relatively unscathed after their wealthy owners employed private firefighters.

Residents from impacted areas are beginning to question why state firefighters were not better resourced for an event of this scale.

While the winds are still very mild today, officials are cautiously optimistic they will not reach the speeds of last week.

However, authorities said the city is "not out of the danger zone" yet and urged everybody to stay vigilant.
