Strong and powerful winds brought on by Typhoon Shanshan, possibly one of the strongest storms ever to hit Japan, forced a series of planes to abort their landings at Fukuoka Airport.
Video captured and shared on X showed multiple aborted landings by several aircraft as each approached the runway yesterday.
In one clip, an Air Seoul flight was seen coming in toward the tarmac before it suddenly swerved sideways and took off into the air.
Bringing gusts of up to 180km/h, strong enough to blow over moving trucks, the typhoon was near the coastal city of Kunisaki in Oita Prefecture this morning and moving northeast, according to authorities.
After moving from Kyushu, the storm was expected to approach the central and eastern regions, which includes Tokyo, around the weekend, Japan's weather agency said.
