Tánaiste meets Jordan Young Scientist winners

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has met with the winners of the Jordan Young Scientist Competition in the country's capital, Amman.

Inspired by the Irish equivalent, the contest was established by the Irish embassy in Jordan last year.

The overall winners of the competition were awarded their prizes by Mr Martin at Hussein Technological University this evening.

They won a cash prize and a trip to Dublin to exhibit at January's competition in Ireland.

The winning project looked at the creation of an artificial nervous system

Rashed Abdullah, a 17-year-old student at the Islamic Scientific College in Amman, told RTÉ News that he and his teammates were excited to visit Dublin in the new year.

The winning project focused on the creation of an artificial nervous system.

Mr Martin is in Jordan following two days of engagements in Israel and Palestine.
