Britain's Prince Harry will attend the coronation next month of King Charles, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said.

Harry, who laid bare his troubled relationship with the royal family in his controversial Netflix documentary and autobiography Spare, will be there to witness Charles and stepmother the Queen Consort Camilla be crowned in Westminster Abbey on 6 May.

Meghan will not travel to the UK and will instead stay in the US with the couple's children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with the event falling on Archie's fourth birthday.

The news ends months of speculation about whether the couple would show up to the King's big day, but may see Meghan accused of snubbing the monarch and the royal family.

In October last year, Buckingham Palace announced that the coronation of King Charles III would take place on 6 May.

Charles, 73, will be formally crowned at London's Westminster Abbey, following a long tradition dating back more than 900 years.

The palace said in a brief statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
