A US sailor has shot and killed two people and wounded a third at the historic military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, according to officials.
The third victim is in a stable condition after being hospitalised, while the gunman also died from "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound", the officials said in a press briefing.
All three victims are US Department of Defense civilian workers.
There is no indication whether the victims were targeted or if it was a random shooting.
The naval base was on lockdown for more than an hour.
"Base security and navy investigative services are currently investigating. The names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin have been notified," Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam said in a tweet.

"The President has been briefed on the shooting at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii and continues to monitor the situation," a White House spokesman said.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam is a combined US Air Force and Navy Installation located 13km from Honolulu.
The incident unfolded just days before the anniversary of the 1941 Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that left more than 2,000 service personnel dead.
The US declared war on Japan the following day, marking its entry into World War II.
