A British mountain biker has been shot dead by a hunter while cycling in the French Alps.
The victim, a keen cyclist, was "perfectly identifiable" and was on a mountain track when shot by a 22-year-old hunter, who was taken to hospital in shock.
The 34-year-old victim originally came from Wales but had been living for the past four years in the small ski town of Les Gets, where he owned a restaurant and a rent-a-chef business.
Philippe Toccanier, prosecutor for the Thonon-Les-Bains region, said that the death was believed to be an accident.
The hunting party was making its way through woods near Montriond, the local prosecutor said.
An enquiry has been launched for "aggravated manslaughter".
The UK's Foreign Office said: "We are in contact with the local authorities about the death of a British man in France, and we are providing assistance to his family."
