Spain's world-famous opera star Montserrat Caballe has died in Barcelona, a source at the hospital where she was being treated has said.
"She died overnight at the Sant Pau hospital," the source told AFP.
A service for the singer, who has long suffered from health problems, will be held tomorrow with a funeral on Monday, according to Barcelona authorities.
Cabelle, who had been ill for some time, dueted with Queen’s Freddie Mercury on the song "Barcelona" which was a worldwide hit in 1987.
Born into a working class family in Barcelona, Caballe unveiled her musical talents early, singing Bach cantatas at the age of seven.
She was renowned for her bel canto technique and her interpretations of the roles of Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti.
In her almost unlimited repertoire, she starred in 90 opera roles with nearly 4,000 stage performances.
