Five people have been killed and another three wounded in a shooting at a newspaper office in Maryland.
The shooting took place at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis.
County Sheriff Ron Bateman told reporters at the scene that a suspect had been taken into custody.
Police also say they have found a suspected explosive device at the scene.
A reporter for the Capital Gazette, Phil Davis, tweeted that a "gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees".
"Absolutely devastated to learn of this tragedy in Annapolis," Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said.
"Please, heed all warnings and stay away from the area. Praying for those at the scene and for our community."
Local news reports said a gunman fired through a glass door at the newspaper and sprayed the newsroom with bullets.
Police say they are still trying to establish a motive for the attack, but one police official said it was being treated as a local incident and not one that involves terrorism.
Police forces in Baltimore and New York City deployed protective forces to major media outlets as a precaution.
One police source told CBS News the suspect is a white man in his 20s who had no identification on him. Two police sources told CBS News the suspect used a shotgun.

As reports of another mass shooting started to emerge, those all too familiar images appeared on our TV screens.
Lines of terrified people walking from a building with their hands in the air.
We’ve seen it too often in recent years in the US - schools, office buildings and in this case a newsroom being evacuated after someone opened fire.
Over the coming hours, more details will emerge about those who have been killed and injured. There will be lots of speculation too about the shooter. A suspect is in custody.
Police and the victims’ families will be desperate to learn what this person’s motivation might have been.
US President Donald Trump has been briefed about the shooting and has offered "thoughts and prayers" to those affected.
It’s an all too familiar statement that the White House has had to issue too many times in the recent past.
