At least three people have been confirmed dead and 13 seriously injured when a packed regional train derailed near Milan in northern Italy.
An official with the regional emergency services said around 100 other people sustained light injuries in the incident.
Cristina Corbetta said the incident happened at around 7am near the Milan suburb of Segrate.
The regional train was travelling from the town of Cremona to the centre of Italy's economic capital.
Only the cars in the middle of the train derailed.
The head of Milan police said an investigation has been opened, with railway police interrogating the train driver and first evidence pointing at either a collapse of the tracks or a problem with a track switch.

Television images showed injured survivors being evacuated, the more serious receiving first aid in a field close by.
It is the most serious rail accident in Italy since 23 people were killed in a high-speed head-on collision between two passenger trains in July 2016 in the southern Puglia region.
