US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky began a hastily arranged White House meeting to discuss a path to peace in Ukraine, with Trump saying the United States would "help out" Europe in providing security as part of any deal to end the war.
The two leaders greeted each other outside the White House before sitting together in the Oval Office, where Mr Trump praised Mr Zelensky's appearance in a black suit, a change from the combat-style clothing the Ukrainian leader has worn almost exclusively since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
The suit itself became a talking point when Real America’s Voice correspondent Brian Glenn, who earlier this year criticised Mr Zelensky for not wearing formal attire, opened his question with a comment about his attire.
"First of all, President Zelensky, you look fabulous in that suit," Mr Glenn said.
Mr Trump quickly interjected, "I said the same thing. Remember? That’s the one that attacked you last time. See? Now he’s a nice guy."
"I remember," Mr Zelensky replied.
"I apologise to you. You look wonderful," Mr Glenn said.
"But you are in the same suit. You see, I changed, you are not," Mr Zelensky said.
The light-hearted exchange marked a contrast to Mr Glenn’s 28 February Oval Office question, when he asked why Mr Zelensky was not wearing a suit and suggested "a lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting this office".
