Kamala Harris' presidential campaign is to launch an ad campaign attempting to tie Republican Donald Trump to Project 2025, a set of conservative policy proposals that the project's participants hope Mr Trump adopts if elected.

The Harris campaign said the first ad is being released in the run-up to Ms Harris' scheduled 10 September debate against Mr Trump, which is to be broadcast by ABC.

Mr Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025, even though many of his closest policy advisers are deeply involved.

The Harris campaign says the project is proof that Mr Trump would adopt a series of authoritarian and hard-right policies if elected on 5 November.

The focus on Project 2025 will be part of a $370 million paid media campaign to run over the last two months of the campaign in several states where the election is likely to be decided.

Project 2025, detailed in a 900-page book, calls for a broad expansion in presidential power by boosting the number of political appointees and increasing the president's authority over the Justice Department.

The project, among other things, also advocates a sweeping elimination of environmental regulations and a crackdown on programmes to boost diversity in the workplace, which the project argues are broadly illegal.

Ms Harris' Project 2025 ad campaign begins this week on TV and digital across potentially decisive battleground states and the Palm-Beach-Fort Pierce media market in Florida.

Mr Trump's main residence is at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach.

Recent national polls have shown Ms Harris building a small lead over Mr Trump since she entered the race on 21 July following President Joe Biden's decision to fold his campaign.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll from late July suggests that Ms Harris up by 1 point, 43% to 42%.

Ms Harris and Mr Walz will also sit for an interview with CNN after weeks of criticism from Republicans and some media that she has not allowed journalists to press her on issues.

The interview will air at 9pm (2am Irish time) tomorrow, CNN said in a statement.

It will be Ms Harris' first interview since becoming the Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden ended his campaign for re-election on 21 July following a shaky debate performance.

While Ms Harris has occasionally taken questions from journalists on foreign and economic policies on the campaign trail, she has yet to do a one-on-one media interview or hold a formal press conference, prompting Mr Trump to criticise her.

Today, Ms Harris and Mr Walz will take a bus through southern Georgia, home to some of its largest black populations and where the campaign has added staff and opened field offices.

Before Mr Biden dropped his reelection bid, polls showed Mr Trump with a clear lead in Georgia, and some black voters were disillusioned with Democrats.

Since then, however, Ms Harris has steadily gained ground in national polls and has been boosted by well over $500 million in donations.
