Four days of music, theatre, circus, comedy and visual arts gets under way in Cavan today for the ninth year of the Cavan Arts Festival.
Local creativity will be showcased, but the festival has also attracted national and international artists to perform in venues across the county, including the Townhall, Cavan Masonic Lodge and the Big Top at Con Smith Park.
Grammy-nominated roots artist Zoé Bahsa and folk duo Dug will be among the big musical names to perform over the four day festival.
The Con Smith Park will be the focal point for free family events across the weekend, including the first PEACEPLUS Carnival School Community Parade.
The vibrant community arts project has brought communities and artists from Cavan and the border region together for the performance, with the help of professional artists in samba, circus and music.
Their performance will take place on Saturday 16 May and is an initiative of the Cavan Arts festival, supported by Cavan County Council and the PEACEPLUS programme managed by the Special EU programmes body.
Circus and street performers will be entertaining crowds, while the children of Cavan will also be taking over the streets in a 'pedal parade' to celebrate cycling.
