Investigation after fire at commercial premises in Armagh

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating a fire in Co Armagh which was tackled by more than 50 firefighters overnight.

Crews from counties Armagh, Tyrone and Down were called to the incident in the village of in Milford in the early hours of this morning.

In a statement this evening, the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said crews had left the scene after extinguishing the fire around 6pm.

The service said crews worked "tirelessly in arduous conditions throughout the day to extinguish the fire and prevent further fire spread to additional properties".

The PSNI is investigating the fire which broke out at a commercial premises on Ballyards Road.

Chief Inspector John Keers appealed to anyone with information to contact the force.

The NIFRS said they were alerted to the blaze at 3.45am and it was attended by crews from Armagh, Keady, Portadown, Banbridge, Dungannon, Newtownhamilton, Lisburn, and a water tanker from Pomeroy was brought in to help keep it under control.
