Police investigating the attempted murder of two people in Bangor, Co Down, on Christmas Eve have recovered the body of a man.

It comes after the PSNI earlier released new images of a man they were seeking in connection with the incident.

"Police investigating the attempted murder of two people in Bangor on Wednesday, 24th December, have located the body of a man.

"Formal identification will take place in due course," the PSNI said in an update this evening.

Two people, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s, were injured in the incident at Chippendale Avenue, when a man armed with a hammer and knife entered a residential property and assaulted them.

He fled the scene on foot, still armed, the PSNI said.

The two people who were injured have since been discharged from hospital.
