Man, 60s, killed in suspected hit-and-run in Derry

A man has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run collision in Co Derry.

The victim, in his 60s, was found at Forglen Road near Dungiven in the early hours of this morning.

Police said they had received a report around 1.35am that a man had been found injured.

Detective Inspector Gillian Connolly, from the Criminal Investigation Department said: "Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services.

"The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly died.

"We are continuing to investigate the circumstances, and at this time, we believe that he may have been injured in a hit and run road traffic collision.

"As part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist."

The Foreglen Road remains closed.

The man is the fifth person to be killed on roads on the island of Ireland this weekend.
