A 41-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his elderly neighbour in Co Down last week.
The body of 84-year-old Sean Small was found at the back of his house in Slievenabrock Avenue in Newcastle on Sunday night.
Police said he had last been seen alive five days earlier and had died as the result of a brutal and sustained attack.
He was killed weeks after being released from prison after serving three years for sex offences.

Mark William Bready, also of Slievenabrock Avenue in Newcastle, appeared at Newtownards Magistrates' Court charged with his murder between 19 and 24 August.
A PSNI detective chief inspector told the court she could connect him to the charge.
Judge Amanda Brady approved a defence application for a mental health assessment of the defendant.
There was no application for bail and Mr Bready was remaned in custody to appear in court again on 25 September.
