Hundreds of people attended a pro-Palestine protest in Belfast city centre, calling for the removal of the ban on Palestine Action.

The group was proscribed by the UK government as a terrorist organisation in July.

The ban means membership of, or support for, the group is a criminal offence under the Terrorism Act 2000, with membership of the group carrying a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

Around 20 police officers were present at the Belfast demonstration while a number of police vehicles could be seen at a distance.

A small number of protesters displayed posters and placards in support of Palestine Action.

People also wore t-shirts in support of the group.

In recent days, the PSNI warned that protesters carrying placards or wearing clothing showing support for Palestine Action at demonstrations in Northern Ireland may be committing an offence.

No arrests were made this evening.
