A 32-year-old man accused of murdering his mother and the attempted murder of his father in Co Cavan earlier this year has been sent forward for trial.

Danny Heyneman, with an address at Kilnavart, Ballyconnell in Co Cavan, was served with a book of evidence at Cavan District Court.

He is charged with the murder of Annie Heyneman and the attempted murder of Henk Heyneman at the family home in Kilnavart, Ballyconnell on 11 January.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to Mr Heyneman being sent forward to stand trial at the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court.

Defence barrister Joseph Smith applied for legal aid to cover the cost of a consultant forensic psychiatrist with the accused's solicitor Damien Rudden subsequently applying for a psychological assessment of his client and a report to be undertaken.

Both applications were approved by Judge Raymond Finnegan before he remanded Mr Heyneman in continuing custody to the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
