Gardaí are continuing to question a man over the death of a woman in Co Cavan on Saturday night.
A murder investigation is underway after the woman, named locally as Annie Heyneman, was found dead at her home in Kilnavert near Ballyconnell.
It is understood the 55-year-old mother of five was stabbed a number of times.
A man in his 60s, believed to be her husband, was also injured and is being treated in hospital. His condition is said to be serious but stable.
The suspect is in his 30s and is being detained at a garda station in Cavan.
It is understood his period of questioning was paused to allow for medical treatment.
He remains in garda custody this evening. Detectives with either have to release him or charge him in the coming hours.
Gardaí carried out a technical examination at the house yesterday. They are also examined an area in Ballyconnell close to where the man was arrested.
They are appealing to anyone who was in the Kilnavert area between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday and who may have video or dashcam footage to contact them.
Gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.
Local Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith said the community is shocked by what happened.
"A lovely family and a lovely lady. I'd have known the family going back previous generations," he said.
"They're very well thought of, highly regarded. It's a terrible loss to our community.
"I know the prayers and thoughts of the entire community are with the family at this particularly difficult and sad time."
