Man, 80s, dies in Cavan crash as four others hospitalised

A man in his late 80s has died following a road crash in Co Cavan.

The crash, involving two cars, happened on the N55 at Clarebane at around 12.40am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

There were four people in the second car and they were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road where the crash happened has been closed and local diversions are in place.

An appeal for information has been issued and any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, are asked to make it available to gardaí.

Separately, gardaí have appealed for information in relation to a two-car collision in Cork, where a man aged in his 70s was seriously injured.

The crash happened on the N28 at Carr's Hill at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.

The man was the driver of one of the cars and was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment,

The driver of the other car, a woman aged in her 50s, was also taken to hospital for injuries that have been described as serious, but not life threatening.

Gardaí are appealing for road users who may have dashcam footage and were travelling on the N28 between 7.15pm and 7.45pm yesterday to make it available to them.
