The family of a young woman who died after she was knocked down by a garda car in Co Donegal say they are to challenge the decision not to prosecute any officers in relation to her death.

Rebecca Browne, 21, from Galliagh in Derry, was killed on 21 May 2023 at Ludden, near Buncrana.

She had gone to Buncrana with a relative for a night out and was knocked down in the early hours.

The collision had been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

A firm of solicitors representing the family said it has been informed by GSOC that the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided that no charges would be brought.

Conor Moylan of Madden and Finucane Solicitors said that Ms Browne's family had been let down by the Irish State and were "devastated by the decision".

Mr Moylan said that he has requested the "full written reasons, together with all documents, consultation notes, expert opinions and reports and memoranda which have gone into this decision".

"It's our intention to challenge this decision by way of judicial review," he said.
