Police investigating a sexual assault of a woman in Derry yesterday have charged a man to court.
The 32-year-old was arrested hours after the woman, who is in her fifties, was attacked.
She was approached in the early hours of Sunday at Lecky Road in the city, dragged into an alleyway and sexually assaulted.
The woman also sustained serious facial and other injuries during the attack.
She required hospital treatment and was left extremely distressed.
Police had appealed for witnesses who were in the area between 1.15am and 1.35am on Sunday to come forward.
The 32-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and grievous bodily harm.
He is due to appear at Derry Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
