A teenager from Árainn Mhór island in Co Donegal, has published his first book, a first aid and community safety guide for islanders on how to deal with emergency situations from cuts and bruises to CPR.
'Sean's Guide to First Aid' was written by Seán Boyle, a student at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada.
Seán was inspired to write his book after completing his transition year work experience on the Árainn Mhór Ferries during which he developed an interest in first aid. Earlier this year Seán was the first young person with Down syndrome to receive a safety card from BIM National Fisheries College.
He passed the safety training course, which covered a wide range of skills, from jumping into a pool with safety gear, going alone on a raft and performing elementary first aid.
Country singer Daniel O’Donnell, who launched the book, praised Seán’s hard work and dedication. He spoke about the power of goal setting and reminded those present anything is possible with hard work and dedication - mirroring Sean’s story.

Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada Principal Derval Newman said Seán's success reflects not only his personal determination, but also the supportive and encouraging atmosphere at the school where students are empowered to pursue their passions.
She said as the island’s only secondary school, Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada plays a key community role by providing a nurturing environment allowing students to thrive.
"As principal of Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, I am incredibly proud of Seán's achievement.
"Seán’s journey, from work experience on the Árainn Mhór ferries to creating this valuable resource, showcases his passion and determination," she added.

Ms Newman said the book is also a powerful reminder of the importance of community and giving back.
Businesses on the island covered publication costs and all proceeds from the book will go to the Donegal Down Syndrome Association, an organisation that supports individuals and families across the county.
Árainn Mhór RNLI crew, Árainn Mhór Fire Rescue Services, local businesses and organisations, Donegal ETB, Donegal Down Syndrome and Local Development Company attended the book's launch.
Seán dedicated the 64-page book to his niece, Aria. Its publication was a proud moment for the island community of west Donegal.
