The case of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson, who faces a charge of rape and other sexual offences, is on track and making progress, a court has been told.

The case was reviewed during a short hearing at Newry Magistrate's Court this morning.

Mr Donaldson's solicitor John McBurney told the district judge that papers necessary for a preliminary enquiry were served yesterday.

That hearing will now take place on 3 July.

The former DUP leader is charged with 11 sexual offences, including one charge of rape.

The other ten charges are one of gross indecency with a child and nine counts of indecently assaulting a female.

There are two alleged victims and the offences are alleged to have taken place over a 21 year period between January 1985 and December 2006.

His wife Eleanor Donaldson is facing four charges, including aiding and abetting the offences.

Both defendants will be required to attend in person at the hearing on 3 July.

The case is listed for 10.30am on that date.
