Three held as murder probe launched following woman's death in Belfast

A woman and two men have been arrested as police launched a murder probe following the death of a woman in east Belfast.

She has been named as Kathryn 'Kat' Parton.

Ms Parton, who was was 34, was found with serious head injuries in a house in the Madrid Street area yesterday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin said officers are working to establish what happened.

The PSNI was called to a house in the Madrid Street area of east Belfast

Ms Griffin said police received a report of the death of the woman shortly before 4.25pm.

"Kathryn, who was known as Kat, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained serious injuries to her head," she said.

"Three people - a woman aged 43 and two men aged 22 and 23 - were arrested on suspicion of murder. All three remain in custody at this time."

Ms Griffin continued: "My thoughts at this time are first and foremost with Kathryn's family, who are left trying to come to terms with their loss".

She said police remain at the scene and made an appeal for witnesses.
