A new political party which is campaigning for 100% redress for homes affected by defective blocks has now confirmed four candidates who will run in the local elections in Donegal.

The 100% Redress party said its major focus is on "securing a genuine 100% redress scheme for all those affected by defective concrete products" but it will also be campaigning on housing, health and tourism.

Party chair Tomas Sean Devine said: "We also want to give hope to our young people who are leaving our shores in their plane loads. To restore confidence in our democracy, it's also vital that we bring openness and transparency to local politics".

Mr Devine, who is self-employed, will be running for a seat in Letterkenny.

Ali Farren, who is also the Party’s Public Relations Officer, will be contesting for a seat in the Carndonagh area in Inishowen.

He is a community centre manager and tourism business owner and said he has experienced "first hand how the mainstream parties have failed the victims of the defective concrete block crisis."

A former chair and founding member of the Mica Action Group, Eamonn Jackson, will be running for a council seat in the Milford electoral area where he has been living for almost 20 years, having moved there from Dublin.

Healthcare worker Charles Ward, who is originally from Árainn Mhór, but living in Drumkeen, is the fourth candidate announced by the party to contest the elections in June.

Mr Farren said: "The crisis has affected the entire community of North Inishowen - directly and indirectly - and the 100% Redress Party is seeking a mandate to speak on everyone’s behalf.

"It's our aim to ensure that the people of North Inishowen can overcome this crisis and that our communities thrive and are sustainable for many generations to come. We will fight to build new homes, keep schools open, attract investment and create jobs".
