Man charged with dangerous driving over fatal Monaghan crash

A man in his 60s has appeared in court in Co Monaghan charged with dangerous driving causing the death of teenagers Kiea McCann and Dlava Mohammed.

Anthony McGinn, aged 60, of Drumloo, Newbliss in Co Monaghan, is also charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to another person, named on the charge sheet as Avin Monammad, sister of Dlava.

The teenagers had been on their way to a debs ball in Monaghan town in July 2023 when the crash occurred.

Mr McGinn has been remanded on bail and will be back in court on 22 April.

Best friends 17-year-old Kiea McCann and 16-year-old Dlava Mohamed lost their lives on 31 July 2023, when the car they were travelling in hit a tree on a section of the N54 at Legnakelly near Clones.

The Monaghan teenagers were on their way to the Largy College School debs in the Westenra Arms Hotel in Monaghan town at the time.
