Woman, 21, charged with murder of Robert Wilkin in Donegal

A 21-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of Robert Wilkin, whose body was recovered from the sea on 3 July at the foot of Sliabh Liag in south Donegal.

Nikita Burns, of Bundoran Westend Accommodation, Westend, Magheracar, Bundoran, Co Donegal, appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court this morning.

Detective Sergeant Mattie Murphy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

He said he arrested Ms Burns at 9.53pm at Ballyshannon Garda Station last night and at 10.21pm he charged her with the offence.

He told the court that she replied, "I didn't do it", when the charge was put to her.

Ms Burns is charged with the murder of Mr Wilkin - also known as Robin Wilkin - on 25 June 2023 at a place unknown within the State.

Superintendent Karen Duffy applied for a remand of the accused in custody to Letterkenny District Court on Monday 4 September.

Judge Ciarán Liddy remanded Ms Burns in custody to appear by video link at Letterkenny District Court on that date.

Rory O'Brien, solicitor for Ms Burns, applied for free legal aid, which was granted.

He also asked that his client receive all necessary medical treatment, including psychiatric treatment that is relevant and any medication that is required while in custody, and Judge Liddy directed that should happen.
