Two people arrested in connection with an alleged assault in the Sliabh Liag area of Donegal at the weekend have been released without charge.

The two - a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s - had been questioned at garda stations in Co Donegal.

Investigations into the incident in the Sliabh Liag/Killybegs area are ongoing.

The area where searches have been conducted by gardaí and the Coast Guard since yesterday morning remains sealed off as searches are set to continue.

Sliabh Liag will remain closed off to visitors again tomorrow as a result.

It is understood a house in the Killybegs area and a car are also the focus of the investigation.

Gardaí and coastguard personnel are involved in the operation

Gardaí have appealed to witnesses to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 985 8530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

They are asking any road users who were travelling in the Sliabh Liag area between the evening of Saturday 24 June and the evening of Sunday 25 June, and who may have video footage, to make it available to them.
