Police in Belfast are investigating the circumstances around a social media video in which a taxi driver threatens a passenger with what appears to be a firearm.
The 45 second video shows the driver brandishing a large handgun and striking the passenger in the face with it, before continuing to threaten him.
Another passenger is sitting in the rear of the vehicle.
The footage appears to have come from a dashcam in the vehicle.
The PSNI said it is aware of the video and is looking into the case.
The Belfast taxi company who employed the taxi driver said the man was not working for them at the time of the incident.
In a statement issued on social media, fonaCAB said the incident did not involve a passenger booking.
"The driver had logged off and was not working for fonaCAB at the time of the incident," it said.
The driver has since been identified and sacked by the company.
"We will however state that any action which affects the safety of our passengers, staff and drivers is never acceptable and should any infringement occur it will be dealt with immediately by fonaCAB and referred to the appropriate authorities."
The statement said that drivers at the company were subject to the same vetting procedures as all taxi drivers in Northern Ireland and in addition they were expected to "maintain the high standards that we hold ourselves to".
"We average 100,000 bookings a week and we do everything we can to ensure that each of those customers is given the same high level of professional service.
"We do not tolerate incidents like this where safety is compromised, standards are not upheld, or the company and our drivers are called into disrepute."
