Police in Belfast have said they are treating the shooting of a man overnight as attempted murder.
Four masked men burst into an apartment on the Antrim Road at around 10.15pm last night.
Two men were inside. The gunmen shot one of them in both legs and the back.
The victim, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.
The second man was uninjured but badly shaken.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The attack has been condemned by politicians.
SDLP Councillor Carl Whyte described it as a "despicable attack".
Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ni Chuilín said it had been a "reckless" incident which had traumatised people living in adjoining flats.
