'Our pain is deep' - mourners attend sibling funerals in Tyrone

Mourners at a funeral for two siblings who died in a crash in Tyrone last week heard that the community was "wounded by grief, our pain is deep".

The funerals took place at noon for the brother and sister who were among three people killed in the crash in Co Tyrone last week.

Dan and Christine McKane will be buried after the joint requiem service at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Strabane.

They died, alongside their aunt Julia McSorley, when the minibus they were travelling in was in a collision with a lorry near Aughnacloy last Thursday.

Seven members of the extended family were travelling back from a funeral in England when the accident happened.

Four other family members were injured and two remain in hospital.

In Strabane today, a large crowd of mourners followed the two coffins as they were carried side by side into the church.

Members of Naomh Eoghan GAA club in Newtownstewart and Raphoe Boxing Club provided a guard of honour.

Father Declan Boland welcomed Commandant Brian Walsh - President Michael D Higgin's aide de camp - who had brought a message of condolence.

Mourners were told that the community was "wounded by grief, our pain is deep".

Ms McSorley's funeral took place in Newtonstewart yesterday, where mourners heard that the community had been "engulfed in grief" following the tragedy.
