A 35-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with criminal damage and arson to a garda patrol vehicle which was parked outside Castlefin Garda Station in Co Donegal.
The incident occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
Gary McGinley, from Emmett park, Castlefin, said "I'm sorry" when he was charged yesterday morning.
He was charged with criminal damage and arson on a garda vehicle, a Hyundai i30 Estate, with an approximate value of €10,000.
Gardaí opposed a bail application made on behalf of Mr McGinley.
He was refused bail by Judge Éiteáin Cunningham, who ordered that he should be given the appropriate psychiatric, psychological and medical care while in custody.
Mr McGinley will appear in court again by video link next Thursday.
