There were angry exchanges outside Donegal County Council buildings in Lifford this morning between mica homeowners and councillors who were due to discuss the issue at a council meeting.
Up to 300 affected homeowners protested before the meeting got under way at 11am.
Later, campaigners Paddy Diver and MICA Action Group chairperson, Lisa Hone, were allowed to address the chamber along with three other homeowners.
The protesters say that the Government's redress scheme is slow and often not working due to technicalities and what they call "red tape".
Some councillors were angrily questioned by the crowd before the meeting. However, when the meeting was adjourned at midday, Acting CEO of the council Liam Ward and Council Chairperson Liam Blaney told the protesters that a series of questions raised by the campaign today would be answered in full next Friday.
They also said that they "get" the situation that homeowners find themselves in, and they promised that they would work with all relevant parties to speed up the implementation of the redress scheme.
Mr Diver said that if the campaigners' demands are not met, they would have to cross the line, but "we don't want to do that".
Some 15 gardaí attended the protest which passed off without incident.
