Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man's body at a hotel providing accommodation for asylum seekers this morning.
The body was found by a member of the public at 8am at the entrance to the M Hotel on Kingscourt Road, Lossets in Carrickmacross.
The scene on the land surrounding the hotel has been preserved for a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The victim appears to have sustained a head injury but gardaí will await the outcome of the post mortem to determine if it was inflicted accidentally or deliberately.
They are also investigating if the man's death could be connected to a disturbance at the hotel last night.
Gardaí had been called but the situation had calmed down by the time they arrived at around 10pm.
They are interviewing staff and residents at the hotel as part of the investigation, but have not issued an appeal for information.
They have also identified the victim but his name will not be released until his family and relatives have been informed.
The hotel provides emergency accommodation for people seeking international protection here and those living in the direct provision system.
It is understood the hotel provides 35 rooms for up to 124 asylum seekers.
