A small fire broke out in the generator room of a Stena Line ferry in Belfast.

The fire, which happened at around 5.30am, happened in the exhaust system of the vessel when it was in port.

There were no passengers on board the ferry. A number of crew members were on board but no one was injured in the incident.

In a statement, Stena Line said that the fire "was quickly brought under control by trained Stena Line crew but in line with established safety procedures, the emergency services were alerted as a precaution".

The 7.30am sailing of the ferry was cancelled, and all passengers have been accommodated on a later sailing this morning.
