Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the death of a man in his 50s in a hit-and-run incident in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan.

The man has been named locally as Frank Nulty.

His body was found by a road-user on the N3 near Billis Bridge just after midday.

It is understood the incident occurred sometime between 10pm last night and midday today.

Emergency services attended the scene and Mr Nulty was pronounced dead.

His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Following an examination of the area, it was identified that the man was hit by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

Forensic collision investigators have completed a full technical examination of the scene and the road has reopened.

Gardaí in Bailieboro are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward, and to any person who is aware of a vehicle with unexplained damage in the wider Cavan area.

Gardaí are also keen to speak to road users who were on the N3 in Ballyjamesduff between 10pm yesterday evening and 12pm today who observed any unusual activity in the area.

Any drivers who were travelling in the area between these hours and may have camera footage are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
