Men allegedly fled crash which caused 'life-changing injuries'

Two men were witnessed fleeing from the scene of a crash which left another man with what are believed to be "life-changing" injuries, police in Co Derry said.

PSNI officers attended the scene after a car crashed into a property on the Five Mile Straight in Maghera.

"The driver of the vehicle was trapped and injured, requiring hospital treatment for his injuries which are now believed to be life-changing," a PSNI spokesperson said.

A stolen black Range Rover Evoque was also found "significantly damaged" at the scene but there was no one in the vehicle.

"We understand two males were witnessed fleeing from the Range Rover Evoque which had been reported as stolen from a property on the Coolnasillagh Road, Maghera earlier that evening," the spokesperson said.

The home was damaged extensively but the occupant of the property was uninjured.

The investigation into the crash on Friday 5 August is ongoing.

The PSNI is appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage.
