The PSNI has launched a murder inquiry after a man was shot a number of times in west Belfast today.

The attack happened at Rodney Drive close to the Falls Road. Locals reported hearing several shots being fired around 5pm.

The man was taken to hospital after he was hit a number of times. He later died from his injuries.

Stormont MLA Gerry Carroll of People Before Profit heard the gunfire.

He condemned the shooting and said the area in which it happened was residential and busy with families.
